This concept design provides mobility access to The Waits, St. Ives, Cambs, UK. It provides a raised 2m wide landing stage flush with the existing quay wall. The design incorporates hazard tactile paving to warn visually impaired of the potential river hazard, a DDA compliant hand rail to aid access on the ramp and a cast iron trip rail to the back of the landing stage area. This allows able bodied access over, yet offers a degree of protection against toddlers, cycles, push chairs, mowers etc falling directly into the river from the grassed public open space. A new ladder ensures a quick exit for anyone that does fall in. Ballotini high visibility blocks highlight the top of the ramp, while reflective paint marks out the ladder position and flush quayside. Additional signage reaffirms the risks associated with this river location. Grass cutting is unhindered by obstacles.
